There is nothing like a bad back or stained muscle to put a crimp in your style. Sometimes the problem is caused by overexertion in the garden or on the athletic field. The discomfort can be annoying but bearable. Other times a pinched nerve, displaced sacroiliac joint, or bulging vertebral disk can have you writhing in pain and unable to move.
Some medications, such as the cholesterol-lowering agents baycol, Lipitor, Lopid, Mevacor, Pravachol, and Zocor, may cause muscle pain and weakness in rare instances. This can turn into a life-threatening condition called thabdomyolysis if allowed to progress.
Obviously, severe back or muscle pain requires prompt medical attention and should not be treated with herbs or home remedies. The suggestions we have to offer here are for minor aches and pains that occur when we abuse our bodies or don’t exercise intelligently.
Home Remedies:
RICE
Muscle sprains and strains often respond best to RICE (rest, ice, compression, and elevation). If you have ever watched wounded college or professional athlete you will frequently see an ice pack on a sore ankle, knee or shoulder. If you don’t have a cold pack in the freezer, grad a bag of frozen peas. Many people keep a bag of frozen peas in the freezer just for this occasion.
Place a towel between your skin. If you have the patience, use an ice pack for fifteen minutes every hour during the day. If you do this for 2 or 3 days after an injury you will be amazed at how well the cold controls the pain and inflammation and helps speed recovery.
